Eva Ströber

Independent researcher

Eva Ströber has completed Chinese Studies, East Asian art history, philosophy and comparative religion in Germany and Taiwan and obtained her PhD on Chinese Buddhism. She has worked as curator for East Asian porcelain at the Porzellansammlung, Dresden, Germany, and the Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics (NL). Her range of publications include the catalogue “La Maladie de Porcelaine’ East Asian Porcelain from the Collection of Augustus the Strong’ (Leipzig 2001), ‘10 000 Times Happiness. Symbols on Chinese Porcelain’ (Stuttgart 2011), and ‘MING. Porcelain for a Globalised Trade’ (Stuttgart 2013). She is now working on ‘transcultural’ objects made for export in China, which, after crossing cultural borders, were used and interpreted in different ways. Her present research focuses on a carved hornbill casque from Borneo, the trade of Asian ceramic storage jars between China and West Asia, and cats in Asian art.
