Oviform jar on footring, wide neck with spreading mouthrim. On the shoulder an unglazed band. The base unglazed, the lid missing. Transitional porcelain, decorated in underglaze blue with two large panels containing single flower sprays, bamboo and flowering lotus plants. Between the panels flower and foliate scrolls reserved in white on a blue ground. This finely painted, well-proportioned jar originally had a cap that fitted over the neck and rested on the unglazed ring on the shoulder. Elegant flower sprays in large panels applied as scattered decorative elements that do not form a composite whole typify mid-17th century transitional porcelain. Jars of this type with such a wide neck are rare.
