Beschrijving

Two pear-shaped bottles on footring, long cylindrical neck. On the shoulder and curling around the neck a three-dimensional chilong in underglaze blue. Overdecorated with separate iron-red prunus flowers. Around the foot a narrow band with a fish-scale pattern. Only close study reveals that the flowers and the band around the foot were not painted in China but in The Netherlands. The composition, style and detail testify to the pains taken by the (possibly) Delft painter, who wanted to reproduce the Oriental style as faithfully as possible. The chilong is a salamander-like, slender dragon with a forked tail. These bottles were made primarily for the Chinese market and served as ornaments or vases.
