Deep dish on inwardly standing foot ring. Slightly raised rim, scalloped lip rim. Partially glazed on bottom. Fried kiln sand on underside, foot ring and bottom. A few baked-on grains of sand on the front on the flat. During firing the dish is warped. Decorated in underglaze blue. On the plate a landscape with on the left a rocky outcrop and a waterfall; in the center two deer by the stream of water caused by the waterfall; above them two birds on a branch; in the background a mountain massif. The upstanding wall has a continuous depiction of groups of lotus and other water plants interspersed with flying and standing herons (or cranes) and butterflies. The border has a wickerwork motif interrupted by eight cartouches with a floral medallion. On the reverse two bands with cloud motifs and twice a peach branch. The dish was manufactured in southern China in Zhangzhou in the vicinity of Pinghe County. The production was intended for markets in Southeast Asia, partly also for Japan and India.
