Beschrijving
Description; Tureen with under-dish. The drawing on the dish is composed of an oval picture plane enclosed by two rings. In the center, a woman at the water's edge with reeds bends slightly forward to watch a three birds. A second woman shields her from the sun with a parasol. Within the adjacent ring are eight large flowers, connected by smaller flowers. In the outer ring, parts of the central picture plane return: alternately a female figure and an exotic bird. The spaces between the figures are filled with a geometric motif. A design by Cornelis Pronk (1691-1759) commissioned by the Dutch East India Company. Long after Cornelis Pronk's death, the design was popular; outside the VOC, Dutch merchants also commissioned the design in Japan.
