Dish on footring, spreading sides. Decorated in underglaze blue with the decoration in white reserved on a blue ground with a diaper pattern. In the centre a shell within a circle surrounded by six radiating lambrequin-shaped panels each containing a flower; similar lambrequins around the rim, scattered flowers between. On the outside flower scrolls, on the base a Fo-dog between cloud and flame motifs in a double circle. As the small jar, cat. 1, such dishes formed part of the Chinese export assortment of around 1500. An identical example has been retrieved from the Lena wreck. Some examples of this rare type have a representation on the base and are characterised by an abundant, complex decoration (Krahl & Ayers).
