Two octagonally-sided vases on footring, long neck with spreading mouthrim. Decorated in China in underglaze blue with flowering plants near rocks. On the neck lambrequins with flower sprays. Overdecorated in The Netherlands with iron-red, green and black with flower baskets, insects and flower sprays. Complete with a 19th-century bronze-gilt mount. Unlike the bowls, cats. 111 and 112, the original Chinese decoration has not been respected. The flower baskets have been painted rudely over the flowering plants and the only attempt at embellishment occurred on the original flower sprays in the pendent lambrequins on the shoulder. This rather coarse overdecoration in only a few colours of a basket of flowers and insects characterises most Amsterdams Bont. Perhaps more remarkable is that these common, low-quality pieces were considered valuable enough in the 19th century to be fitted with a bronze-gilt mount, a quite expensive procedure.
